Collection: Pfleuger Fly Reels

Pflueger, founded in 1881 by Ernest F. Pflueger in Akron, Ohio, began as a maker of fish hooks and quickly became one of America’s most respected fishing-tackle brands. Its first fly reels appeared in the early 1900s, with the legendary Medalist (introduced 1938) setting the standard for affordable, durable single-action reels. Machined from bar-stock aluminum with a distinctive click-pawl drag, the Medalist remained in production for over 60 years and is still prized by collectors and bamboo-rod traditionalists.

After Pure Fishing acquired Pflueger in 2004, the fly-reel line was refreshed. Today’s offerings include the classic Medalist (now made in China but still faithful to the original design), the mid-priced Summit and Trion series, and the premium Purist large-arbor reels featuring sealed disc drags and modern machining. Though no longer the innovative force it once was, Pflueger remains a trusted name for reliable, value-driven fly reels.
