Colorado Muzzleloader Season

Colorado's dedicated muzzleloader season typically runs in mid-September — one of the most coveted tags in the state. It opens during the peak of the elk rut, giving muzzleloader hunters exclusive access to rutting bulls before rifle pressure begins. To hunt Colorado's dedicated muzzleloader season, your firearm must meet specific requirements: it must be a muzzleloading firearm using loose granular black powder or an approved black powder substitute (pelletized powder is not legal for the dedicated season), and it must be ignited by a matchlock, flintlock, wheel lock, or percussion cap.
