A Muzzleloader Bullet Engineered to Perform at Muzzleloading Velocities
The Traditions Smackdown 250-Grain .50 Caliber Muzzleloader Bullet is purpose-built for the demands of modern muzzleloader hunting. Unlike rifle bullets adapted for muzzleloading use, the Smackdown was designed from the ground up to deliver controlled, reliable expansion at the velocities muzzleloaders actually produce — making it one of the most effective projectile choices for elk, deer, and bear hunters in Colorado’s high country.
Polymer Tip for Reliable Initiation and Flat Trajectory
The Smackdown features Traditions’ proprietary yellow spire point polymer tip, which serves two critical functions. First, it initiates expansion consistently on impact, even at the lower end of muzzleloading velocity ranges. Second, it improves the bullet’s ballistic coefficient, flattening trajectory and retaining more energy at distance — important when you’re shooting across a Colorado canyon or taking a longer shot on an open ridge.
Controlled Expansion via Tapered Copper Jacket
Beneath the polymer tip, the Smackdown uses a tapered copper jacket interlocked with a lead core for controlled, progressive expansion. The interlocked construction prevents jacket separation, keeping the bullet together through the target for reliable energy transfer and deep penetration. This is the kind of terminal performance that matters on elk-sized game where you need the bullet to reach vitals through heavy muscle and bone.

EZ Load 3-Petal Sabot for Easy Loading
The Smackdown comes with Traditions’ EZ Load 3-petal sabot, engineered to provide a superior gas seal while preventing petal overlap as the sabot engages the bore rifling. The result is noticeably easier loading — a real advantage in the field when you need a fast follow-up load or when fouling has built up after multiple shots.
