The Sparkle Dun Sulphur targets trout at the most critical — and most productive — moment of the hatch: the emerger stage. By combining a trailing Z-lon shuck with a flared deer hair Comparadun wing, this pattern imitates a Sulphur or PMD dun in the act of breaking free from its nymphal shuck, stuck in the surface film and completely vulnerable.
On the Frying Pan River and Roaring Fork, when Ephemerella hatches are in full swing and trout are rising selectively, this is often the fly that makes the difference. Its bright yellow-olive body and prominent shuck trigger strikes from fish that have seen every standard dun pattern in the box. Fish it dead-drift in the film during PMD and Sulphur emergences, especially when you see fish rising but refusing standard dries. It also works as the dry in a dry-dropper rig with a small nymph below.
