Grey is one of the most realistic and effective colorways for mouse patterns — its mottled grey and olive deer hair body closely mimics the natural coloration of a field mouse swimming across a river, triggering the predatory instincts of the biggest trout in the system.

On the Roaring Fork, Frying Pan River, and Colorado River, summer and fall evenings bring large trout out of their daytime lies to hunt along undercut banks, logjams, overhanging grass, and structure.
