A Technical Euro Nymphing Pattern Built for Selective Tailwater Trout
The Jiggy Mayhem Bush Pilot in Natural is a slim, segmented euro nymphing pattern designed for the kind of selective, pressured trout that live in Colorado's best tailwaters. The natural colorway — tan, olive, and brown tones that blend seamlessly with the riverbed — makes this fly look exactly like the small mayfly and midge nymphs that trout feed on day in and day out on the Frying Pan, Roaring Fork, and Colorado River.
The Mayhem series is built for modern euro nymphing and tight-line techniques. The tungsten jig bead gets this fly to depth fast, the jig hook rides point-up to reduce snags, and the slim profile cuts through the current without drag or unnatural movement. When fish are educated and the bite is technical, this is the pattern that gets it done.
Pattern Details
- Style: Jigged tungsten bead slim euro nymph
- Color: Natural (tan/olive/brown)
- Sizes available: #16, #18, #20
- Bead: Tungsten jig bead — fast sink rate, rides hook point-up
- Profile: Slim, segmented — highly imitative of small mayfly and midge nymphs
- Hook: Jig hook — reduces snags, improves hookups
- Effective on the Frying Pan, Roaring Fork, Colorado River, and most Colorado tailwaters
- Works year-round; especially effective during Baetis, PMD, and midge hatches
How to Fish It
Euro nymph or tight-line on a short leader for maximum depth and contact. Dead-drift through seams, runs, and the heads of pools, maintaining direct contact throughout the drift. The #16 covers most standard tailwater conditions; drop to the #18 or #20 on the Frying Pan or any time trout are keyed on the smallest naturals. Pairs well with a Zebra Midge, RS2, or hot-spot nymph as a dropper in a two-fly rig.
