The Euro Nymphing Standard — On a Jig Hook

The Jiggy Frenchie TB is a tungsten bead jigged version of the Frenchie — one of the most popular and effective euro nymphing patterns in the world. Developed as a hot-spot variation of the Pheasant Tail, the Frenchie adds a bright collar of red, orange, or pink dubbing at the thorax that acts as a trigger point, drawing strikes from trout that might otherwise ignore a more imitative pattern. The tungsten jig bead gets it to depth fast, and the jig hook rides point-up through the drift for fewer snags and better hookups.

This is a go-to pattern for euro nymphers and tight-line anglers on the Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, and Colorado River. It works across a wide range of conditions and water types — from fast pocket water to slow, deep tailwater runs — and produces fish year-round. If you're building a euro nymphing box for Colorado, the Frenchie belongs in it.

How to Fish It

Euro nymph or tight-line on a short leader for maximum depth and contact — the Frenchie was designed for this technique. Dead-drift through seams, runs, and the heads of pools, keeping direct contact with the fly throughout the drift. The hot-spot collar does the work of triggering strikes when the drift is right. Also works well under an indicator in deep, slow runs. Pair with a Zebra Midge or RS2 as a dropper for a versatile two-fly rig.
