The CDC Flashback Pheasant Tail — Now on a Jig Hook
The Jiggy CDC Flashback Pheasant Tail TB takes one of the most effective mayfly nymph patterns ever tied and upgrades it for modern euro nymphing and tight-line techniques. The tungsten jig bead sinks fast and gets this fly into the strike zone quickly, while the jig hook rides point-up through the drift — reducing snags and dramatically improving hookup rates. The CDC collar breathes and pulses in the current, and the flashback wing case adds just enough flash to trigger strikes from selective trout on the Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, and Colorado River.
Available in six sizes from #10 to #20, this pattern covers everything from big stonefly-sized presentations in fast pocket water down to tiny midge-sized nymphs for the Frying Pan's most technical fish. It's one of the most versatile nymphs you can carry — effective on Baetis, PMDs, and a wide range of mayfly species throughout the season.

How to Fish It
Euro nymph or tight-line on a short leader for maximum depth and contact — the jig hook and tungsten bead are purpose-built for this technique. Also works well under an indicator in deep runs. Dead-drift through seams, runs, and the heads of pools. Fish the #10 or #12 in fast, deep pocket water; drop to #16, #18, or #20 on the Frying Pan's technical tailwater when trout are keyed on small naturals. Pairs well with a Zebra Midge or RS2 as a dropper in a two-fly rig.
