A Tungsten Jig Leech with Flash and Movement
The Jiggy Diamond Leech is a tungsten bead jigged leech imitation that combines the fast-sinking, point-up advantage of a jig hook with a diamond braid body that creates a pulsing, iridescent flash profile in the water column. Leeches are one of the most overlooked but highly effective food sources for large trout in Colorado's rivers — they're present year-round, they move with a distinctive undulating action, and big trout actively hunt them along the bottom of deep runs, pools, and slow-moving water.
The diamond braid body creates a multi-tonal shimmer that imitates the natural iridescence of a leech in motion, while the tungsten jig bead gets the fly to depth fast and keeps it riding point-up through the drift for fewer snags and better hookup rates. At size #8, this is a substantial pattern that creates real presence in the water — ideal for targeting larger, predatory trout that are looking for a bigger meal. On the Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, and Colorado River, this pattern is especially effective in slower, deeper water where leeches are most active.

How to Fish It
Dead-drift on a tight line or under an indicator through deep runs, pools, and slow-moving water where leeches are most active. Also effective with a slow, hand-twist retrieve or a gentle strip-pause that imitates the undulating movement of a swimming leech. The tungsten jig bead keeps the fly in the strike zone along the bottom throughout the drift. Fish it as a single fly or as the point fly in a two-fly nymph rig with a smaller midge or emerger as a dropper.
