The Green Drake Sparkle Dun is built for one of the most exciting hatches in Colorado fly fishing. When Drunella grandis Green Drakes emerge on the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan River, large trout that rarely show themselves come to the surface — and they're often keying on emergers in the film rather than fully-formed duns. This is the pattern that capitalizes on that moment.
By combining a trailing Z-lon/Antron shuck with a Comparadun-style flared deer hair wing, the Green Drake Sparkle Dun imitates a dun in the act of breaking free from its nymphal case — stuck in the surface film and completely vulnerable. Its segmented olive body with a chartreuse shuck gives selective fish the exact profile and color cue they're looking for during the emergence. Fish it dead-drift through slow flats, glassy tailouts, and the edges of riffles where Green Drakes congregate. It also excels as the dry in a dry-dropper rig with a Green Drake nymph or Copper John below.
