The Gitzit 2.5” Tube Jig (often called the Original Fat Gitzit or Tournament Series in 2.5") is a classic, highly effective soft plastic tube bait — one of the most legendary and best-selling tube designs in freshwater fishing history. It's a fatter-bodied tube compared to many slim modern ones, with a thick, rounded profile and long, flowing tentacles that create lifelike movement.
Key Features
- Length: 2.5 inches — the smaller, finesse-oriented size (also available in 3.5" and larger).
- Design: Fat, cylindrical body with a sealed nose (for easy nose-hooking on jig heads), ribbed texture for grip, and long, thin tentacles (usually 8–10 strands) that quiver and flare on the drop, hop, or drag. The "fat" profile gives a bigger silhouette to attract fish in clear or pressured water.
- Action: Deadly subtle — excels at finesse presentations like drop-shot, Carolina rig, shaky head, Ned-style (with light head), or vertical jigging. The tentacles breathe and undulate with minimal rod movement, mimicking crawfish, baitfish, or leeches. Great for dead-sticking or slow dragging.
- Best Uses: Smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, trout, panfish (crappie, perch, bluegill), and more. Legendary for clear water, deep water (down to 50–100 ft in some cases), rocky structure, brush piles, or when fish are inactive/finicky. Works year-round in all water clarities.
- Colors: Huge variety — popular ones include green pumpkin, smoke/black flake, watermelon/red flake, pumpkinseed, chartreuse glitter, black/blue, and natural craw patterns. Many have metallic flake or salt impregnation for extra flash and scent.
- Rigging Tips: Nose-hook on a light tube jig head (1/16–1/4 oz, often internal weighted or exposed hook styles like "stupid rig" or football head). Use 3/0–4/0 tube jig hooks for best fit. Salt-packed versions sink slower and add scent.
- Pack: Typically 8–10 per bag, very durable and affordable.
It's a staple bait that pros and weekend anglers swear by — often called "where the pros go" for its tournament-winning history.
