The Dirty Hipster Green Drake is a jigged tungsten bead nymph designed to imitate the large, meaty nymphs of Drunella grandis — the Western Green Drake — in the weeks leading up to and during the summer hatch. The jigged hook design rides point-up, dramatically reducing snags on the rocky substrate of Colorado's freestone and tailwater rivers, while the tungsten bead gets the fly down fast into the strike zone in riffles, runs, and deeper pools where big trout hold during Green Drake season.
Built for tight-line euro nymphing and Czech nymphing techniques, the Dirty Hipster Green Drake excels dead-drifted through seams and runs on the Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, and Colorado River. It also fishes effectively under an indicator as the point fly in a two-fly rig, or paired with a smaller nymph dropper. The Green Drake nymph is active in the water column for weeks before the adult hatch, making this pattern a consistent producer from late May through August on Colorado's Western Slope gold medal waters.
