A Colorado Caddis Pattern Built for Selective Trout
The Corn Fed Caddis in Olive is a versatile caddis dry fly designed to match the prolific caddis hatches that define summer and fall fishing on Colorado's premier rivers. With its low-profile silhouette, olive body, and realistic wing profile, this pattern sits flush in the film and presents a convincing target to selective trout — exactly what you need when fish are keyed in on caddis and ignoring everything else.
Whether you're fishing the Roaring Fork through Glenwood Canyon, working the Frying Pan's technical tailwater below Ruedi Reservoir, or drifting the Colorado River through Glenwood Springs, caddis are a staple food source from late spring through October. The Corn Fed Caddis in Olive covers the most common caddis color on these waters and fishes effectively as a searching pattern even when no hatch is visible.
Pattern Details
- Style: Caddis dry fly
- Color: Olive
- Sizes available: #16, #18
- Profile: Low-riding, flush-in-film presentation
- Matches common olive caddis species on Colorado tailwaters and freestone rivers
- Effective spring through fall; peak during evening caddis hatches
How to Fish It
Dead-drift on a drag-free presentation during hatches, or skitter it slightly across the surface to trigger strikes from aggressive fish. Fish the #16 during heavier hatches and higher flows; drop to the #18 on low, clear water when trout get picky. Pairs well as a dry-dropper rig with a BH Caddis Larva or Zebra Midge trailing 12–18 inches below.
