The BWO Comparadun is an essential pattern for any angler fishing Colorado's technical tailwaters and freestone streams. Blue-Winged Olive hatches are among the most reliable and widespread on the Frying Pan River, Roaring Fork, and Colorado River — occurring in spring and fall, often on overcast days and in cooler temperatures when trout are most active near the surface.
Its flared deer hair wing and hackle-free design allow it to sit flush in the surface film, presenting a low, accurate Baetis dun silhouette that educated fish on pressured water find hard to refuse. Fish it dead-drift through slow seams, flat tailouts, and glassy runs where rising trout are sipping olives. It pairs beautifully as the dry in a dry-dropper rig with a Pheasant Tail, RS2, or Barr's Emerger trailing below.
