The Adams Trude is one of the most versatile attractor dry flies you can carry on Colorado's rivers. It blends the proven Adams color scheme — brown and grizzly hackle, gray body, and split tail — with a Trude-style white downwing elk hair wing that rides low over the body and creates a caddis-like silhouette that trout find irresistible, even when no specific hatch is happening.
On the Roaring Fork, Colorado River, and the freestone streams of Colorado's Western Slope, the Adams Trude shines as a searching pattern in broken riffles, pocket water, and runs where trout are looking up. Its bright orange body adds a hot spot of color that triggers aggressive strikes, and the white wing makes it easy to track in fast water. Fish it solo, or use it as the dry in a dry-dropper rig with a Hare's Ear, Pheasant Tail, or beadhead nymph below.
