Its core design mirrors the series: a hollow, weighted torpedo-shaped lead core encased in durable plastic with curved "diamond" wings that produce the signature erratic, side-to-side darting, rocking, diving, and pulsating action—imitating a distressed or fleeing baitfish. This creates a visible "nodding" at the rod tip to confirm proper retrieve/troll speed, with no line twist. The line-through rigging (run line through the lure, add bead, tie hook) lets the body slide forward during fights, reducing leverage so fish struggle to throw the hook.

A key distinction is its dual tow points (or depth options in many versions), allowing anglers to rig for shallow or deeper trolling—ideal for reaching fish holding lower in the water column without needing downriggers.
