Collection: Greys Fly Rods

Greys (originally spelled Grey’s) was founded in 1968 in Alnwick, England, by the Hardy family as a budget-friendly sibling brand to premium Hardy rods. Using the same factory and expertise but simpler fittings and finishes, Greys quickly became the working angler’s choice across Europe for salmon, sea-trout, and reservoir fishing.

After Hardy’s 2013 acquisition by Pure Fishing, Greys was repositioned as a global value-performance leader. Today’s lineup — built in the Far East to exacting specs — includes the fast-action GR70 and GR80 series ($300–$550) for distance and power, the medium-fast Kite for all-around trout work, and the award-winning GR20 and GR50 ranges that routinely outperform rods costing twice as much.

In the current U.S. market, Greys occupies the “best bang-for-buck” spot between entry-level Redington/TFO and mid-tier Orvis/Sage. Fly shops love them for beginners, guides love them as loaner rods, and traveling anglers love the no-fault warranty. Greys proves you don’t need to spend $800 to fish a rod that casts rings around its price tag.
