Lower Roaring Fork Fishing Report — August 8, 2026

The Lower Roaring Fork could be in for a major change over the next few days. With the Fryingpan expected to climb to around 500 CFS by the end of Monday, we're anticipating a significant push of cold water into the Roaring Fork. If everything lines up, this could be a huge improvement for the lower river and potentially bring back some of the longer float-fishing days we've been missing.

The goal is that the additional cold water will help bring temperatures down enough to make the Lower Roaring Fork fishable later into the afternoon. It's still too early to know exactly how things will shake out, so we'll need to let the river come up, settle down, and see what the temperatures do.

We've also had a string of colder nights starting to move through the valley, and we've seen temperatures coming down a little bit. That's encouraging, but we're still watching conditions closely.

It's been a crazy year, and conditions seem to change every couple of weeks. For now, we're keeping a close eye on flows and water temperatures and will update you as soon as we know more.

What's Hatching on the Lower Roaring Fork Right Now

When conditions allow, here are five bugs worth having in your box for the Lower Roaring Fork this time of year:

• Midges (Size 20–24) — Midges are a year-round staple on the lower Roaring Fork and one of the most reliable patterns when fish are being selective. A Zebra Midge in black/silver or copper is hard to beat. Shop Zebra Midge →
