Frying Pan River Fishing Report — September 22, 2026

The Frying Pan River is the best option in the Roaring Fork Valley right now — and it isn't close.

While the Colorado River and Roaring Fork remain blown out from recent wet weather, the Frying Pan has stayed fishable and is delivering the most consistent action in the valley. If you're trying to get on the water this week, the Pan is where you want to be.

What's Working on the Frying Pan Right Now

Fall conditions on the Frying Pan mean midge and BWO activity, and the fish are responding. Our top three fly recommendations for today's conditions:

• Zebra Midge — A Frying Pan staple. Fish it deep under an indicator in sizes 20–24.
• RS2 - Grey — One of the most effective emerger patterns on this tailwater. Deadly when fish are rising subtly in the film.
• Klinkhammer - BWO — Watch for BWO hatches mid-morning through early afternoon. This pattern is hard to beat when the dries are working.

Current River Conditions

The Frying Pan is fishable, but conditions can shift quickly with rain still in the forecast. Check flow levels before heading out and be prepared to adjust.

What About the Colorado and Roaring Fork?
