Roaring Fork Valley Fishing Report (July 2026): Best Flies, Current Conditions & Local Guide Update

While low water and warm afternoon temperatures continue to shape fishing conditions, anglers getting an early start are still finding outstanding action on the Roaring Fork River, Fryingpan River, and Colorado River.

Roaring Fork River Fishing Report

The Roaring Fork River has been fishing exceptionally well. With consistent hatches of PMDs, Yellow Sallies, Caddis, and Red Quills, trout have been feeding aggressively throughout the morning and into the evening.

Best Flies for the Roaring Fork River

The PMD nymph has been our most productive fly over the last week, especially fished beneath a dry fly. The Purple Parachute has been fooling fish during hatch activity, while the White Crystal Bugger has been producing larger, more aggressive trout in deeper runs and cut banks.

Fryingpan River Fishing Report

As always, the Fryingpan River continues to produce excellent fishing.

Near the Toilet Bowl, we've had our best success with:

• Mysis Shrimp
• RS2 dropper

Further downstream, trout have been eating:

• Tiny Drake
• Disco Midge dropper

Small flies and light presentations continue to be the key on the Fryingpan.

Colorado River Fishing Report

Fishing on the Colorado River has been fair to good depending on the time of day.

Water temperatures continue to rise quickly each afternoon, making early mornings your best opportunity. Water levels remain low, causing trout to spread throughout the river instead of holding in their typical feeding lanes.

We're still seeing:

• Red Quills
• Excellent early morning Trico hatches

Best Flies for the Colorado River

• Chubby Chernobyl

Best Streamer

• Black Sex Dungeon

Fishing a Chubby Chernobyl with a dropper underneath has been one of the most productive techniques. If you're looking for larger fish, stripping a Black Sex Dungeon through deeper buckets and structure has been producing some violent eats.

Current River Conditions

• Water levels remain below average throughout much of the valley.
• Afternoon water temperatures are climbing into stressful ranges for trout.
• Fish are holding in deeper runs, undercut banks, shaded pockets, and oxygen-rich water.

If you're planning to fish this weekend:

• Get on the water at first light.
• Be finished before the hottest part of the afternoon.
• Carry a thermometer and monitor water temperatures.
• Fight fish quickly and release them immediately.
