The Lower Roaring Fork is currently under an afternoon fishing closure to protect trout during the hottest part of the day. We strongly encourage anglers to stay off the lower river if at all possible — the fish need a break, and your cooperation makes a real difference for the long-term health of this fishery.

If You Do Fish: Get On Early and Get Off

For those who do decide to fish the lower river, getting on the water at first light gives you the best chance at cooler temperatures and more active fish. Expect heavy boat traffic during the limited morning window — solitude is hard to come by on the lower river right now.

Better Options Right Now

As conditions continue to warm on the lower river, we've been directing anglers upstream where the fishing is significantly better and the fish are healthier:

• Upper Roaring Fork (Basalt to Aspen) — Cooler water, healthy flows, and trout eating hopper-dropper rigs all day.
• Fryingpan River — Green Drakes are showing and dry fly action has been outstanding.
