Lower Colorado River near Glenwood Springs, Colorado — August 2026 fishing conditions

Lower Colorado River Report — August 1, 2026

Status as of August 1, 2026: The Lower Colorado River is closed to fishing. Water temperatures remain too warm and continue to stress trout populations. We strongly encourage all anglers to respect the closure and help protect this fishery.

The good news: increased releases from Ruedi Reservoir are expected to improve flows and introduce cooler water into the system over the coming weeks. We're monitoring temperatures and conditions closely and will post an update as soon as fishing resumes.

Current recommendation: Please stay off the Lower Colorado until conditions improve. Check back here or follow us for the latest updates.

Stop by the shop at 831 Grand Ave, Glenwood Springs — our staff can point you to open water in the meantime, including the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan rivers.
