Lower Colorado River Fishing Report — August 17, 2026

The Lower Colorado remains off limits for now — water temperatures are still too warm to fish safely, and we're asking anglers to stay off the river until conditions improve.

That said, there's reason for optimism. Overnight temperatures have been dropping, and we're starting to see that reflected in the water. Temps are trending in the right direction, and if the cooler nights continue, we could be back on the Lower Colorado sooner than you might think.

We know it's been a long wait, and we appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation in giving the river a break. Protecting the fishery now means better fishing for everyone down the road.

Stay posted — we'll be watching conditions closely and will update you here as soon as we're ready to give the green light. In the meantime, the Fryingpan and Upper Roaring Fork are your best bets for getting on fish.

Stop by Glenwood Springs Outdoors at 831 Grand Ave, Glenwood Springs and we'll give you the latest on conditions and point you toward the best water right now.
